Be Very Afraid!

A war - even a conventional one, could be pretty disastrous for the world at large, already badly hit by a pandemic raging for over two years by now.

<<Ukraine was hit by a cyberattack splashing a warning across government websites to "be afraid and expect the worst", while Russia, which has massed 100,000 troops on its neighbour's frontier, released pictures of more of its forces on the move.

The cyber attack unfolded hours after talks wrapped up with no breakthrough between Russia and Western allies, which fear Moscow could launch a new military assault on a country it invaded in 2014.

Kyiv said President Volodymyr Zelenskiy had proposed a three-way meeting with the leaders of Russia and the United States. Zelenskiy's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, said the "life and death" of his country hung in the balance.

"The drumbeat of war is sounding loud," Michael Carpenter, U.S. Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), had said at the close of talks on Thursday.>>

<<Russia has been threatening an invasion of Ukraine for months now, trying to extend its control from Crimea and Donbass to the whole country. Basically an imperialist threat to a former colony from the new tsar, Putin.>>

One could argue that broadly similar is the case with Taiwan.
