In the Hindi heartland, BJP has further tightened its grip. And there's no Pulwama-Balakot.

Outside the cow-belt, BJP has been washed out in Telangana. Congress has performed the way the AAP did in Punjab in the last assembly poll.

BJP's fate in Mizoram is expected to be broadly similar.

The exit polls, by and large, failed to capture the voters' minds.

The gamble of "caste census", meant specifically for the heartland, has failed to cause any shift, let alone any upheaval.

Goes without saying, it's profoundly disturbing.

Even more worryingly, it's pretty much in alignment with the recent global trends.

The Far Right is rising on the back of the politics of "othering".

However, with hardly another three months to go, the Opposition has no option but more of the same -- for the coming parliamentary poll.

The sagging of morale will have to be tackled as effectively as possible.

Giving up is just no option.

Dear Sati jee,

Denial is a very common (initial) response on the part of the traumatised, after the concerned traumatising event.

So, nothing unusual about your, and many others', response.

The unfortunate, and real dangerous, thing is that for many the "initial" is the "permanent" feature.

(I still recall that even back in 1971, after being stunningly trounced by Indira Gandhi, the Grand Alliance, that had included the predecessor of the BJP among others, had raised the bogey of ballot tampering via use of some magic ink(s).)

Incidentally, I recall your earlier repeated assertions that EVM tampering is strategically kept reserved for the parliamentary polls only.

As far as I am concerned, nothing is infallible. Moreover, in a world of fast charging technology and in India with a regime in place with deepest disregard for democratic values and notions of fairness one has got to remain ever vigilant.

Quite interestingly, this time, the cursing of the EVMs is far more muted than earlier. Even yours.
