It is with great sorrow that I let y’all know of the passing yesterday of Steve Piche. Details are not fully known, but it occurred during a ski event. We are all getting together at AYC for an afternoon of remembering Steve. Please contact me if you will be able to join.   I apologize for notifying many of you this way. He just has so many friends that it has been difficult to call everyone. Hugs to you all.  When details of a memorial and celebration of Steve’s life are available, we will pass them onto you.

Terri

I will miss Steve. He was so generous and always lived life to the fullest.

Does anyone have any information about services?

 All,

I posted this on the GT300 site.  But wanted to insure it went out to all the catamaran sailors.

It is very difficult to write clear thoughts about one of my longest closest friends Steve Piche. I always thought Steve would be giving a top 10 at my funeral. Now sadly, I will be at his. It is so difficult to think Steve will only now be with us in memory. He had a huge personality and heart. The guy was unstoppable and never gave up, clearly seen many times at the GT300. He has friends that span the globe. He was a leader, adventurer, and visionary who invited us all to share in for whatever he loved. He shared all he had and the guy would give you the shirt off his back. He leaves behind his loving wife and adoring girls as his legacy. I feel blessed to have known Steve and shared in his idea of the GT300.

At this time my mind continues to replay scenes of Steve and I locked in fierce battle or some silly incident chicken dancing at Wurstfest . I have nearly 30 years of these memories to replay. For now, it brings tears. But soon I will just enjoy those memories. He never took himself serious, but just enjoyed life and making you laugh. Hard to believe the guy was a PHD brilliant in his field. He will leave a legacy and hole in our hearts as big as that infectious smile. I would say smooth sailing, but I know Steve would rather it be blowing the dogs off the chains always looking the challenge.

I hope to sail with you once again my friend.

That’s a great obit, Mike.  You’ve captured Steve’s spirit. Thanks for writing that.

All,

I had remembered writing the attached doc for Steve's 50th B-day.  It's my top ten list about Steve when I was unable to attend his party.  At the time I figured he was being roasted, so to balance it out, I wrote from the heart.  I am really happy that I had written this way because all too often, we do not share with our friends what we really think of them and how we feel.  Steve's passing is a reminder to me what a special community that we have and how blessed we are for the long term close relationships we share.  I am thankful for everyone.  I hope you enjoy the top ten list.  I can honestly say that I aspire to be better at many of the things Steve was good at.

Enjoy,
Mike Rohrer
