Gentlemen,
East Hampton Schools are only allowing school groups to use the fields, so outside groups such as ours are shut out for now. We will have to wait for next year to enjoy tomfoolery such as this. The brotherhood and good times will flow again soon.

[Oshadega Ultimate Tournaments]

If you haven't heard, we are running Sarasota Sunset on November 6-7, 2021 at the Historic Sarasota Polo Club.

We are trying to expand our GGM division, which currently has 12 teams registered.

We are also looking to add any, and all, divisions with enough interest. We have 5 GM Open teams already registered with strong interest from 2 others.

Register now, and send to your other contacts so we can make Sarasota Sunset the celebration our Ultimate Community wants.

Timeline: Team Registration through June 30. Initial Bids will be given and $250 Team fees will be collected in July to confirm the spot. After that point, we will add teams on a rolling basis, two at a time for what makes good sense. (Trying to avoid 11 and 13 team events)

For new divisions, we will make a call on July 31 as to which divisions are viable. Viable means we will have 6 teams confirmed and team fees paid. Once a division is viable, we will add teams on that rolling basis until we get an optimum number per division.

Player fees will be collected until September 15. Player fees are $25 per player. Teams that don't have 10 players minimum by September 15 risk losing their bid and team fee.

Following up on Sas's concession to the Covid Gods for this year's East Hampton, and the revived cry for a Legends Showcase game at one or both of the National Events:

 

Rodger Oakes has already offered a field for such a game at Sarasota, and is very excited about it (even talking potential sponsorship and jerseys for the players...). USAU is interested in providing us a field on Sunday, but in the context of the unprecedented number of teams they admitted, it is not certain yet for Aurora...

 

But we should begin collecting names for who can/would commit to playing in such a game at each even...  I vaguely remember a list that was created a year-plus ago for that but can't find it in any of my boxes: anyone still have it? Or shall we just start over on a fresh Googlesheet?

 

As to the age for cutoff:  I think we should keep it as close to 60 as possible.  Maybe start collecting names, with ages, and plan to cut  at maybe 20 or 21 team?  Then we can just add in "ages below 60" as needed to get to that cutoff number... Something like that?  (I'm 58, so I'd love to see that being the cutoff, but if we can fill two teams with guys already in their 60s, or just by adding in the 59 cohort, I think that's where we should cut...

 

Sas is obviously a key voice in this / organizer of this. I'm happy to help if needed...

I am so thrilled that we are moving forward with such momentum and purpose. Let's get this done and get the USAU to respect us and add the division. Nob has already said his organization will do so at the sight of any real progress (tournaments, divisions, etc.)

You guys are so awesome. I love you guys and it is such an honor to be on the field with and know such wonderful men as you.

Second most important, I think, is adopting a bit more of a soft, friendly approach with USAU.  Byron is supportive and really wants this to happen, and at the same time he is concerned that we'll build this up as if it "is definite" and set them up to look like the bad guys if it just doesn't work out.  I know how long some of you guys have been pushing for this (SAS!), but I think if we approach it from a "what we can do to help your event be even better" perspective than a "you guys owe us this" perspective we'll get further, especially given the huge number of teams USAU just invited and teh challenge they will face in getting it all on fields...

Rodger at Sunset has plenty of flexibility and is eager to make this happen, and to make it as great as possible, so we can bill this as "DEFINITE" at Sunset, and still TENTATIVE at Nationals.  

Anyone have an idea of a company or two who might be interested in sponsoring the event and donating jerseys?  Or maybe one sponsor per team, and it can be part of the competition!  And I don't want to get too crazy, but maybe even we get a charity for each team like they do for the NBA All Star Game now, and raise money for two youth ultimate organizations or something? 

I'll make a note of those who are saying they want to help, and we can move the details of this discussion to a "Committee" to spare everyone else the emails...  Sas, Lee, Eric.. .who else wants to continue the organizing/brainstorming conversation?

Great question!  And I think it is up to us to decide/suggest.

Since the progression goes 30 / 37 / 45 for women in Masters / GM / GGM, I would think that either 52 or 53 would be reasonable minimums for Legends.

But since we're not "officially" a division this year anyway, and we're potentially going with "loose" cutoffs depending on numbers, for the purpose of these Showcase games, I'd suggest we ask any women 50 and up to add their names, and let's see what happens!  

I'd personally LOVE to see a coed Legends Showcase game or two!  :)
