Hi,

I am new to Grails.  I just picked up a book - Grails 2 - A Quick Start Guide by Dave Klein and Ben Klein.

Right now, I am at the stage to display the http://localhost:8080/TekDays at my browser.
Howerver, there is an error message that says Page Not Found, a 404 error with Path/TekDays.

Please see attached.

I do not know how to debug the error.  I simply follows what is said in the book.

Please let me know what does the error mean and how do I go about debugging this error.

Tks.

Hi Karen,

If you are trying to run it in Grails 3, the default context is http://localhost:8080/

If you want to change the default context, add the following to the bottom of your grails-app/conf/application.yml:

---
server:
    contextPath: /TekDays

By the way, discussion of user-issues should be in https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/grails, grails-de...@googlegropus.com is for discussing framework related issues

Hope it helps.

Hi Karen,

Soren is correct about the context path.

What is more important is that Grails 2 is obsolete and you shouldn't touch it unless you have to for work purposes.

Grails 4 is going to be released very soon.

Grails 3.3.9 is the latest Grails

I would highly recommend this book

and

is a very good resource, along with

Grails3 is built on top of springboot, another java framework.

and usually lags behind it.

Regards,

Thanks Daniel & Soren

I am quite disappointed to hear that Grails 2 is outdated cos when I saw the one to many and many to one example, I got so excited cos it is so difficult to do it with pure java and java EE jdbc.

Now, I can't find this book on the book selves(btw, I have just recommended the book to our library but it will take ages for it to arrive or never arrive).

Is there any free tutorial that I can make use of to get some hands-on ?

Tks & regards,
Karen

Hi Karen,

Most of the material that you find about Grails 2.x can be applied to Grails 3.x - the biggest chagne is the build system and the test-runner. I can also highly recommend the Grails 3 book by Eric Helgeson https://www.grails3book.com/ Also, the Grails slack is an awesome place to get help - in general the Groovy and Grails community is very friendly.

Otherwise, keep asking questions.

I recently migrated a large application from grails 2.3.11 to grails 3.3.8 without many problems.
