Hi
I have used GQRX with Mac OS X Mojave without problems, however, when I upgraded to Mac OS Catalina (V10.15.2) GQRX 2.11.5 stopped working and is not recognized by Mac OS.
I could not find any newer version than 2.11.5 for Mac - Will there be a versions witch will work with Mac OS Catalina?

Jan,
Unfortunatly, Catalina does not take in charge the 32 bit softwares (only 64 bits). So if GQRX is a 32 bits app, I'm affraid you'll have to go back to Mojave or an earlier version of Mac OS.
Many MAC users have to face this problem, so, as long as you can keep a "good" version of MAC OS, no need for upgrade.
Best regards,
Gérard / F6EHJ

Hi Jan,

If you mean an app bundle that is properly signed, approved by Apple,
etc... the answer is most certainly no. Not from me anyway. I would
need a new Mac, pay annual "Apple developer fee", and figure out how
the whole process works.

Having said that, the current build 2.11.5 seems to run on my very old
Mac, see attached screenshot. I don't know whether there are any
stricter security settings that have been rolled out recently.

Other options to install gqrx are through Homebrew and Macports.

Cheers
Alex

Hi Alex and Gerard

Thank your comments, fortunately I have Mojave on my stationary Mac and Catalina on my Macbook.

Alex, Noted on your screenshot that your Mac seems to be running Catalina - is that correct?

Indeed, though it says version 10.15 and not 10.15.2 like your. I
should also mention that my old iMac is not officially supported by
recent versions of Mac OS X, so I have installed it through the "macOS
Catalina Patcher" http://dosdude1.com/catalina/

Thanks Alex

Noted how you did it and will keep it in mind for future experiments.

Hi all,

I also had GQRX running on my macbook until I upgraded to Catalina 10.5.2. It crashes on startup with the error messages shown in the attached screenshots. I installed GQRX with macports.

Is this similar to other people's problems? Does anyone know of a solution?

Thanks,
Nathaniel

i tried using Macports (from scratch) and the build failed with an error (can't remember)...

ah well... it is sad, because i still have my Gqrx bookmark with all the AM and HF freqs that the previous version of Gqrx and my RT-SDR dongle for OS X had supported (using direct_samp=2) under older versions of OS X... this is also true under GNU/Linux...

i've been resigned to simply not using Gqrx under OS X and simply using my RTL-SDR under GNU/Linux for FM, 2M and NOAA WX...

Thanks, Willie.

If anyone does have good advice on this, I would be very grateful. I’d like to use this with RTL-SDR dongle in the communications systems class I’m teaching.

Best,
Nathaniel

Who knows. One update broke my audio output. The next update fixed it. Then the latest update broke it again. 😐

SdrGlut works nicely with a RTL-SDR dongle on MacOS Sierra, MacOS Mojave, and MacOS  Catalina (V10.15.3). Perhaps, you could use that. There is an install package - so it is just drag and drop to install -

Oh, thank you for the tip. I will check that out.
