I use a Table Panel Item in SS which produces this on a Person page (using a ss-heading tag in TMG)

and wish to replicate this in GP. So far, I've got this (using a gs-heading tag in TMG)

I'm trying to figure out the selectors to add a User Style in GP to match the SS output.
Ideally, I'd prefer to include the heading within the table in both SS and GP, but haven't been able to figure that out in SS.

Chris,

GP = Gedcom Publisher

GS = GedSite

SS = Second Site

  1. GP and GS support “ss-heading” as a Tag Type. They also support GP- and GS-. That means you can use ss-heading for both SS and GP if you want. SS does not support GP-Heading or GS-Heading.

  1. GP and GS are not doing what I expected with heading tags that are in a Table Panel. They do the same thing, in terms of the HTML they create, but the visual results may—and do—differ based on the program that reads/renders the HTML.

    1. In Firefox or Chrome, the GS output looks like a heading and much like the SS output.
    2. However, using calibre, the GP output looks like a table cell.

  1. When a heading tag is processed as part of a Tag Set: Table Panel in both GP and GS, both programs wrap the text in row and column HTML as well as an HTML heading. That’s not correct. When processing a heading tag (regardless of the gp-, gs-, or ss- prefix), both GP and GS should only wrap the text in an HTML heading (H2).

I will change both GS and GP in their next releases such that they only use an HTML heading for the -heading tags. Until then, you probably can’t get the output you want. The issue is, the text is wrapped in row and column HTML and that affects the styling/appearance, but I don’t think there is a way to select such cells and repair the styling to make it look the way you want.

John,

Rendering of ss-heading tag in GP

I am ready to publish a new edition of my e-book and am wondering if a new release of GP is imminent. I have just one instance of the rather awkward looking heading tag. If a new release is due soon, I'll wait. Otherwise, I'll go ahead and publish. It would take a very diligent reader to find the one instance, and even then they may not think it odd-looking. However, as I work on a further edition, I will have a considerable number of usages of the heading tag and would then like to be able to define its appearance so that it looks like the SS output.

Chris,

I’m planning on a release soon, possibly next week when I have a GedSite update planned, too.
