Donal has kindly prepared ride reports for the last two rides:
Last Sunday had a large gathering for the return of the grandfather of the Peloton – Martin Reed. The group of 15 included Martin, Ben theboardmanbike, Nikolas, Klaus, Marcel, Chai, Tony J. myself, Pete Burgess, Ozzie, Randy, Juergen, Pablo (not Escobar), One Harrow Schoolteacher (sorry-forgot the name) and Francisco.
The pace up to the coffee shop was sensible for the most part, with a slight tail wind we cruised at 32-34 to the highway where the normal split occurred. The River road is still scared with the tooth marks of diggers scraping the flood banks away so needs a little care and caution in places. The slower group split included several who should really get to fook of my gentle ride and join the fast boys up the high way! At one point our Bavarian purveyor of hub caps took off after a truck to which Ozzie was heard to mutter; ‘I had a golden Lab like that once! The run up the highway prompted the local police to review their speed camera’s when they clocked some crazy blurs doing 48-50 up long stretches of the 347!
The run home was well mannered with the canal too rough in the initial stages so we split down the bumpy highway where Ozzie working for the greater good of conversation guided the faster boys to ignore the turn back to the canal thereby saving the rose sniffers the ignominy of having to chase their fast ass’s all the way home. The blur bikes took the longer route along the river.
Despite the wind and rising temperature we rolled home for about 90 klm in about 3 hours. Martin survived though he did note that Guilford is not quite as warm at this time of year!!! The fast boys rolled in very soon there after and Marcel who had joined them along the river road arrived a little later stewed in his haste. Some colorful observations about what it means to join the fast boys preceded a well earned coffee and plans for an afternoon comatose on the sofa…
Desolve…
Yesterday had a very reduced group of Tony, Chai and myself. With no where to hide and a head wind we struggled up to the coffee shop alternating between a workmanlike and very hard work rate of 32-34 klms…it was a very hard 32 when I was at the front and work man like 34 when I could duck in behind!. Despite the head wind we rolled into the coffee shop in fair shape and sucked down the usual fruit and sugary toast supplements…The return trip followed the previous week with the highway proving easier in a smaller group. Tony and myself took turns rotating and pulling to try and hold Chai’s back wheel!
The man did not relent and with his time trial bike and aero helmet I can honestly say I break more wind in the bathroom on any given day! Legs or lung or both gave out over the final few klms and I wheel sucked my way back to the PT station behind Mr T for another 90 klm spin. Fooked but comforted by the smug knowledge that I’d got out of bed and had an afternoon of cramps on the sofa to look forward to I adjusted my manhood, fired down a double espresso and left a large tip to leave the girls wondering..…!
The above text is unedited and because we are a Politically Correct group, I need to make a correction to the above text: Hamburg is not in Bavaria and he is more likely to be a purveyor of fish rather than hub-caps

Subject: Last Sunday's ride.
After the great write up last week from Donal doing an equally informative one this week would be harder than selling TV sets to the Amish. Actually I wonder if the Amish are allowed bikes, or whether they have a riding club. I suspect if they do they won’t be allowed to ride on Sundays because let’s face it they aren’t allowed to do very much.
A reasonable group assembled for a gentle ride under grey (yes its grey not gray Microsoft spell check) and in slightly cooler temperatures than normal. Tony, Donal, Dirk, Jeff, Peter (not Burgess),myself and a new rider who’s name I have forgotten, sorry. He was or should I say is Swedish which adds to the diverse nature of our group.
We did the “original” ride, that is straight up from PT to the old noodle shop which was closed so went to the other old noodle shop by the summer palace and then back the same route. The total distance being a shade under 90 KM and with a very sensible average speed of 30 KPH. I dare say it was an easier ride than normal and it was nice to be able to function the rest of the day.
We were joined by three “Smart bike” riders who continued on up the road to PT station . Apart from Tony having to stop to put more air in his tire thanks to a big dinner the night before (or was it a slow puncture) there is very little to report. I must say the wind direction was a joy, it was in to our faces on the way up and helped push us all the way home.
With Easter and Songkran so close together a lot of people will be out of town but if anyone is planning on the odd ride perhaps they should shoot out an E Mail and see who else is around. I won’t make next Sunday but hopefully will be available for other rides. I’m just wondering if the Amish were allowed TV’s what would be their favorite program ?....... answers on a postcard please.
