I have a Looker Studio table that uses a single Google Sheet. The  Looker Studio table is automatically removing rows that are duplicates. Is there a way to not have the duplicate removed but display both in Looker Studio?

Thanks,

Jan

Jan,

I'm not sure if there is a better way but I would add a field to the Google Sheet that has a unique value for each row - something like this would work: =ARRAYFORMULA(Row(A2:A). If you use that field in your Looker Studio table, it will deduplicate your data. You would need additional code in the formula to only add a row number when data exists in the row.

That was my thinking exactly.
Here is a formula that only adds a row number when there is data in the A column: =ARRAYFORMULA(IF(LEN(A2:A), ROW(A2:A), ""))

Alternatively, you could also add a Record Count column to your table. It wouldn't display the row twice, but would at least show that the row appears twice in your data.

Hi,
Check the Data Source Setting in Looker. Go to the Edit Data Source menu (click on the little pencil next to the data title in your Looker) For each column, make sure that Aggregation is set to None. If it's set to Sum or Average, remove the metric to show each row.
Sara
On a side note, how do you all pronounce "Data"? Do you pronounce it with a long A (dayta) or a short A (dahta). Just curious.

I’ve always pronounce it DAY-ta.  Thanks, Goonies!

Thanks, Sara, unfortunately the aggregation was already set to none.

Shoot, I'm stumped then. I have OST data in a Looker and the students are listed multiple times for the multiple tests they took.
I use ChatGPT to help with looker questions a lot. They have a specific GPT for Looker Studio

Hey Jan - just a question - what kind of viz are you creating?

The only reason I ask - I do a ton of work with OST data (I'm in the Youngstown area), and I don't have an issue with duplicates - but it really depends on the type of viz you're building.

For example, if you're building a bar chart, and you choose student as one of the dimensions, then removing the duplicate students is required to build that type of visualization.  If, however, you're building a table, then it won't remove the duplicates - because the table will print all of the data.

I'd be happy to jump on a Google Meet with you if you'd like me to take a look at your setup.  Just let me know.

John
