Can I assign a series a 'line' type when using a Material Chart with dual-Y axis. If not, what is the best way to have my series 0 type 'Bar' and series 1 type 'line'?

You should use the classical (non-material) charts to get more features, including combo mixes of different types of series.  You can also specify theme: 'material' to get the default material fonts and colors.

Thanks - I realized that I needed classic combo package to mix bar and line types but will miss the Dual-Y axis that is only supported in Material charts - is there a projected date where Material charts will support both bar and line types in the same chart?

There is a targetAxisIndex option for series, so you can get a left and right side axis with classic charts.   And you can get the axis to be inside or outside the chart area.

We are not doing any work on the material charts at this time.  More news soonish.

Perfect - I will research. Do you also know if I can flip an axis so it graphs largest to smallest vs default of smallest to largest?
