Trying to create interactive chart but receiving: "syntax error line 9 file code"

Hi, 

I'm trying to create an interactive chart to run on a Google site. I'm trying to dummy the interactive chart on this link: https://developers.google.com/chart/interactive/docs/gallery/controls and am using the code created to try and manipulate it and work out what I can do, however, I keep getting the error code: "Syntax error. (line 5, file "Code"), when running the code. Line 5 is below:

 google.load('visualization', '1', {'packages':['corechart', 'controls']});

Is there something really obvious that I'm doing wrong here?

Hi Scott, 

There is nothing obviously wrong with the line you copied, but perhaps the problem is not in that line.  JavaScript syntax errors can be tricky to figure out.  If you could point us at the page where you are trying this, we could take a look.  Maybe put together a jsfiddle example.

Hi Daniel, 

Thanks for such a quick reply. I've realised that my understanding of script isn't good enough to experiment with what I'm trying to achieve. Where would you start learning wise - do you think I'd be able to quickly pick up the basics? What I'm trying to do is produce an interactive chart using Google sheets/sites.
