With the new updates for Google, the motion chart has been retired.  I am looking for a replacement for this chart and need some help.  Here is what we are trying to do.

We have a project in which groups from around the world enter weather data daily from their location.  (approximately 160 locations).  In the past we have been able to use the motion graph to graph time on the horizontal axis, temperature on the vertical axis and then participants can choose any number of the locations that they want to compare.  We could set the opacity on the locations they were not interested in to 0 so that when they ran the graph they would only see the locations they had chosen.  We used the option to trace the path and it created a quasi-line graph with the data points as the bubbles.

We are looking for a way to do that again with our project this spring.  Can anyone suggest a way to do this?  So far, I haven't found that any of the Google charts that will do what we are looking for.

Thanks for any help you can be

Hi Susannah,

The MotionChart is mostly dying because it uses flash.  But it is still available, I believe, and it works if your browser can display flash.

However, I've been working on a replacement for the Motion Chart for a while.  It is not very difficult to just use other charts with animation, though controlling the animation automatically (e.g. play mode) requires a new kind of control.   Supporting all the MotionChart options is more work, but if you only need a particular subset, it might not be hard to for you to set it up using charts in a dashboard.
