Hello all,

My name is Srishti Srivastava, I'm a B. Tech CSE student of IIT Dharwad. Can someone kindly help me out to understand how GSoc works and how to become a part of GSoc 2020? I am interested in Data Structures and Algorithms and also AI (Specifically, Computer Vision).

Hi,

The only way to get selected in GSOC is contributing to the organisations and stay active on their communication channel either it may be slack, gitter etc.

So, go to gsoc official website, explore the organisation which interests you and then explore their projects. After that get familiar with the project's codebase and start contributing i.e send Pull requests to fix issues in their projects.

Hope this helps.

Hi Rupesh,

What are you interested in doing? I want to do an internship in Google in Summer 2020. Is GSoC the way to go? I was thinking to convert my internship to full time job.

Well, GSoC is not an internship, it's more like a google program to make open source project familiar to students. Don't think of getting a full-time job, although mentioning GSoC selection in your resume does help in getting lots and lots of jobs, make it a wonderful and challenging experiences for a Computer science students.

Hi Shristi,

Saurav is right. Getting selected in Gsoc doesn't mean any internship in google. It's only google who is encouraging open source development by giving good amount of stipend to the selected students.

But if you want to get internship at google then you will have to apply for that and go through their interview process.

Hope this helps
Let me know if you have any questions

Thanks & Regards

You should look at the Google Jobs page for roles at Google.
