HI,

We are running the Shell Extension within our Citrix Environment to allow users a pathway from the Windows to the Google World.

We've noticed a few issues and was wondering if anyone is seeing the same behaviour or if they are using the extension in the same way.

Our main issues at the moment are:

1) Sometimes when trying to save a brand new document a 0kb file is first created and then you are prompted to overwrite that file, can confuse the user (because its a new file), also occasionally the file stays at 0kb.

2) There seems to be a caching issue within Citrix so we end up with different files shown in the two locations ie Google Drive Shell Extension and Actual Google Drive. We need advice on what could cause this.

3) When you try and copy from local storage (including c: and any mapped drives) to Google Drive Shell extension you get an error:

Inline images 4

4) Right Click Context Menus don't seem to work, eg, While in Google Drive Shell Extension users would like to right click and then have the ability to create new folders or files.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Regarding (1), it's only sometimes? Is it always with some program but never with others, or does the same program sometimes prompt and sometimes not?

2) What file changes trigger this issue? Is the file being moved from the Drive web interface and the extension then fails to update, or is the file moved in the extension but this change is then not reproduced in the web interface?

3) I'm afraid the image did not show properly. Can you send it as an attachment rather than inline?

4) This should work. Looking into it.

Regards,
Juan Pablo

Scott,

Can you confirm you are using the latest version v1.8.56.0 of the Drive Shell extension?

I believe Juan was able to reproduce a few of these issues #3 and #4, so he is looking into what is happening in these cases. However, we need more details on both issue #1 and #2.

Issue 2) The Drive Shell extension does not auto-fresh the explorer view, so if changes are happening in Drive, and the user has the explorer window view open to a folder, the user would have to press F5 to refresh the explorer view to see such changes. Could this be the issue or are you seeing even manual refreshing the view is not showing new changes?

Hi Darrell,

I can confirm that we are running version 1.8.56.0.

Issue 1) I've attached 3 Screen Shots. I've created a new file and then hit Save As, Given the file a name (Juan Test) and hit Save. I am then prompted to overwrite the file which you can see in Issue1-1.jpg, even though this is a brand new file with no previous "Juan Test" in the folder.

The contents do not seem to save and you see a 0kb file which you can see in Issue1-2 and Issue 1-3.jpg. If I try to open the file in Google Docs I get an error and if I try and open it in Word it shows as blank.

I still need to do some Internal testing on this one to try and establish a behaviour pattern because the problem seems to be intermittent.

Issue 2) I've take a quick video to show you how this looks --> Caching - If I look at my Chrome Device Files Application within the Citrix Test folder I see a number of files (over 30). If I view this from within File Explorer that has been Published into Citrix I only see a few (12).

Because the application is Published via Citrix the users don't see the Drive Proxy Service Settings.

I also have a laptop which has the Shell Extension Installed so that I can test outside of Citrix and as I write this email I'm still not seeing the "Juan Test" file that I created as the example in Issue 1, even after pressing F5.

If you need any further information or clarity please let me know.

Hello Scott,

I've built a pre-release for you to test. This build should solve the caching issue, where changes in the web view weren't being updated correctly. It should help with issue 1) as well. Let me know if you manage to reproduce it consistently, or if this solves it.

Hello,

We have managed to track down and resolve "4) Right Click Context Menus don't seem to work, eg, While in Google Drive Shell Extension users would like to right click and then have the ability to create new folders or files." A pre-release with the fix for you to check on your env is here: https://github.com/jpgaribotti/google-drive-shell-extension/releases/tag/v1.8.56.2

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Hi Juan.

Carried out some testing this morning and can report the following - seems like we are making progress!

Issue 1) - File Overwriting Issue - Seems to be resolved in 1.8.56.2 but will do some more testing to confirm.
Issue 2) - File Syncing Issue - Seems to be resolved in 1.8.56.2 but will do some more testing to confirm.
Issue 3) - Right Click Context Menu Not working, seems to be resolved in 1.8.56.2 but have noticed a bug. If you try to create a new document or folder and there is already a file or folder with the same name in the location that you are creating it in you receive an error:

Inline images 1

Issue 4) Error when copying from a folder or shared drive into the Shell Extension - Not resolved.
Inline images 2

Hi Scott,

I've created a new pre-release version that should resolve the remaining bug in issue 3) Right Click Context Menu Not working. The shell should now be able to correctly create folders with "(n)" at the end if a file with the same name already exists. You can find it here: https://github.com/jpgaribotti/google-drive-shell-extension/releases/tag/v1.8.56.3

We are still working on Issue 4, but please test it as well. We believe the fix may have some impact on this issue too.

Thanks,
Juan

Hi Juan,

Just tested 1.8.56.3 and you now seem to be able to right click and create files and folders without the error! Good Work!!! :)

Still getting issue number 4 though but this is excellent progress !

Thanks for your work so far.

Glad to hear it, Scott :)

Would you mind running a couple of tests and sending the logs for them? Follow these steps:
1 - Set the log level in the registry, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Drive Shell Extension\logLevel, to 0xff (255). This will make the extension run slower than usual, and create detailed log files.
2 - Restart explorer.exe: Go to the task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc). In the Processes tab, select explorer.exe and click End Process. Then go to "File->New Task (Run...)", type explorer.exe, and click Ok.
3 - Open a file explorer window and navigate to the extension.
4 - Open a second file explorer window and navigate to a target directory.
5 - Open a third file explorer window and go to %appdata%\Google\Drive Fusion\Logs. Move the logs to a different location (or delete them if you don't need them, I just need the directory to be empty).
6 - Copy a file from the extension to the target directory to trigger the error message.
7 - Restart explorer.exe as described in point 2.
8 - Send the logs in %appdata%\Google\Drive Fusion\Logs

Repeat the test but copying a file from a target directory in the computer to the extension, and send the log for that too.

After doing the tests, return the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Drive Shell Extension\logLevel to the previous value (0xe (14) is a safe value).

Hopefully we can find what's causing the issue in the log. We have a number of different environments but we haven't been able to reproduce that issue.

Thank you for your help,
Juan Pablo

Hello Scott,

I've made a build that I expect will fix the problem of copying files into and out of the extension. It's available here: https://github.com/jpgaribotti/google-drive-shell-extension/releases/tag/v1.8.56.4

I'm still looking into why copying files INTO the root folder asks for elevation, but copying files out of it works just fine. Copying into and out of subfolders should work just fine.

Regards,
Juan
