Shell Extension icon visible in My Computer - but unresponsive

Installed the latest binary on a Windows 2008R2 server (Running Xenapp 7.6 over PvS)

The icon exists in my computer, but when I click on this nothing happens - logs are shown below.

We use a proxy auto configuration (PAC file) which may not be helping here

It does seem as if the extension is communicating with the service. Were you able to authenticate? Did clicking on the extension the first time open a browser asking you to log in to your google account and authorize the application Drive Proxy to access your Drive?

Hi Juan,

Nope sorry - nothing happened, no browser windows opened, no prompts or other windows or messages. Tried rebooting and still get the same.

I had this exact same issue in testing. For me, the shell extension doesn’t do anything at all in any of my test virtual machines, regardless of operating system. It would appear that it doesn’t like VMware Fusion for some reason. Installing it on another VM on another hypervisor was successful.

Hi,

We are using ESX 5,5 here, have tried this on multiple machines (all virtual) and get the same issue - clicking on the shell extension appears to do nothing.

What other diagnostics can we do please? I'm eager to provide a solution to the business to bridge the gap between google drive and a windows environment (without performing a full sync)

Getting a little further here - but still VERY confused.

After doing a full windows update (and a chrome update to m45) the drive proxy is working on a test citrix server (W2008R2) but only for normal users, when Administrators click on the shell extension in my computer... nothing happens.

Also tried installing this on a vanilla W2008R2 box, but on here clicking on the shell extension in my computer, for both users and administrators... does nothing.

Are there any pre-requisites for running the binaries? a VC redistribution or something ?

Just to check, when you say "the drive proxy is working", you mean users can click on the extension, are prompted to log in, and can navigate through the contents of their Drive store?

Hi Juan,

Yes thats right - a normal user account can now log on to our test citrix server, click on MY COMPUTER then into the "Google Drive Shell Extension", authenticate, and access their drive contents.

However ...

- Administrators can't do this, clicking on the Google Drive Shell Extension briefly flashes up an "Authorizing" popup (which vanishes very quickly) and nothing else happens.

- On a non-citrix test box (Just running a vanilla 2008R2 and Chrome 45) this process fails for all users, regarless of administrator or user status.

Just to ask the same as above, is there any pre-requisites for running the binaries? a VC redistribution package maybe ?

Hi - one more quick update, we use OKTA here for authentication to google services, and our administrative users aren't part of that environment, so this makes sense why it only works for users.

So, only the one problem left which is the vanilla W2008R2 server with Chrome v45 that fails for everyone - i can only asssume this is down to a VC redistribution package thats missing - what was the binary built with ? Then i can just add this and see if it fixes it.

Glad to hear the issue on the Citrix server is resolved.

As for the W2008R2 server, the Proxy part of the application requires .NET Framework 4.0.3. The installer should have checked for that and raised a warning if it didn't find it. It may be that the check isn't working there, I'll have a look.
