Read replicas in different regions

The following page:
suggests that you can create a read replica in a region different to that of the master (see the definition of "Read Replica" under "Terminology").

Yet, when I attempt to create a read replica of my (gen2) master, the region dropdown is greyed out.

Am I missing something or is the documentation wrong/misleading?

Read replicas have to be in the same region as the master instance. I will get that documentation fixed. Thanks for notifying us!

Thanks to both of you. Also, should you believe read replicas from different regions to be a very helpful feature to yourself and the community, feel free to file a new feature request. There does not seem to be a feature request of that sort given this search.

Lastly, should you discover any other inaccuracies in our documentation, feel free to use the 'Send feedback' link found in the top right-hand corner of each article. We appreciate any constructive feedback.

It certainly is a useful feature and one that AWS released 2 years ago:
