Hi there,

I would like to perform backups of my second generation Cloud SQL master more frequently than the automated backups schedule currently allows. I would like to make a backup every hour, or ever few hours, if possible. In the second generation docs, of on-demand backups, it's written:

For Second Generation instances, the FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK flag is not used for backups. This means that writes and other operations are unaffected by backup operations.

This doesn't say anything specifically about the performance implications of on-demand backups, however. What performance impact is there to a second generation Cloud SQL instance when performing an on-demand backup. Is there no, or negligible impact? Is there a reason I should not perform backups once per hour?

Thank you in advance.

Second Generation on demand backups have the same performance impact as the scheduled backups, ie negligible.
