We've measured latency to connect to Cloud SQL Postgres and connection via Private IP latency is around 15-20 ms which is 2-2.5 times higher then native Postgres thro Private IP which has latency around 8 ms.

I am curious if some one explore a way to to improve latency?

Hello Vadim,

What do you designate as "native" in the context of PostgreSQL to private IP? Do you have a PostgreSQL instance hosted by a GCE VM?

You refer to latency values in the seconds range; how did you measure these values? Did you measure latency from within a Cloud Shell? Did you measure latencies from another VM within the same project, or from an app in App Engine?

Are the two reference points for measurement within the same region and zone, both the PostgreSQL instance and the point you are measuring from?

pgbench has been used to run tests. pgbench has an option to measure "Per Statement Latencies"

Test VM was in the same project, region and zone (central region) as CloudSQL and PostgreSQL on GCE

Hi Vadim,

Is this situation still on? Do you still measure these latency values?

To examine this situation in detail, we need your project number, name of the PostgreSQL instance and exact test procedure. This is confidential information that you mustn't write in public forums. Rather, send me this information in a private email that you can generate using the drop-down menu offered by the "reply" button at the top-right of the message window.

Alternatively, you are encouraged to open an issue with similar contents in the Public Issue Tracker, where your problem will get examined and investigate thoroughly. You should select Cloud Platform > Storage > Cloud SQL for category. You posting there is initially publicly visible, so you should not write confidential information at this stage.

An exhaustive copy of your pgbench generated results is much appreciated.
