Hi Team,

I am unable to connect to google cloud's host via WinSCP. To do it can your give us the username, password, hostname and port number? Please let me know as I use my google id for GC. I am trying to connect to google cloud via WinSCP so I can look at the files in my google cloud dir.

Thanks,

Jhumkara P

Hi,

To connect to a GCP VM instance using WinSCP, you can refer to this documentation [1] from WinSCP. The information you need from the GCP instance and how to get it can be found under “Collect information about your GCE instance:”.

For a more general overview of GCP VM instances and how they work you can also check this page [2].

Keep in mind that Groups are publicly accessible, so passwords and other private information must not be shared in this channel.

I was trying to connect to the google cloud web host. It is not letting me when I use WinSCP. I need to connect so I can view the files in my directory.

Hello,

I understand by your reply that following the guide that my colleague shared didn't solve your issue and you need further help, we encourage you to create a Stack Overflow or Server Fault question, or file a support case to GCP support explaining what you are trying to achieve and what you tried so far. Please make sure that you share as many details of the issue your are facing as you can without sharing any sensitive information like passwords or ssh keys.

Additionally, I found this similar Server Fault question with an accepted answer, which refers to the same guide, if you decide to create a Server Fault question I encourage you to link to that question when explaining why that guide didn't solve your issue, that way you can avoid any misunderstandings that might cause your question to be marked as duplicate.

Please note that the intended use case for Google Groups is general discussion about GCP products, not technical questions, more information about this can be found here.

I have tried the google cloud case thing but, since I am on the free plan it isn't allowing me.

Hello,

I understand that none of the guides or answers which my colleagues have shared have worked for you. Could you share more details of what you are trying to achieve, including anything that you have tried and what specific issues you are facing? We would like to help you with any issues that you have with our products, and this will help us understand what might be going wrong so that we can point you in the right direction.

On a final note, please ensure that anything that you share does not contain any sensitive information, here or in a Stack Exchange site, as both are public threads.

It sounds like you are trying to use your Google Cloud Storage bucket, not transfer files to/from a Google Compute Engine VM. Perhaps this article from the WinSCP is more relevant:

Hi Chris,

Sorry for the late response. I would not like to connect to a bucket. I would like to transfer files from my desktop to WinSCP.

Thanks,

Hello Jhumkara,

Thanks for the additional information. Please note that the official documentation that is provided from WinSCP side has provided the two possible ways that you could use our products for transferring files, which are either through a Google Cloud Storage bucket [1], or using Google Compute Engine [2] as it was already mentioned in this thread.

Apart from those, it would be beyond our expertise to provide another method that you could interact with WinSCP as it's its own product and not directly supported by GCP.

From your last message "I would like to transfer files from my desktop to WinSCP" I did a quick search just to maintain a best-effort support experience, and I happened to find a documentation provided by WinSCP on how to upload files [3]. I hope that it'd be of help for your use case.

As it was previously mentioned, please note that the intended use case for Google Groups is general discussion about GCP products, not technical questions, more information about this can be found here

Hopefully the explanations above help.
