After "Map to file system resource..." the changes to the files are persisted but there doesn't seem to be a way to remove trailing whitespace characters
without opening the file in an external editor, which is kind of distracting, and then use it to trim the whitespace. There is the option "Show Whitespace
characers" but I think trimming whitespace manually is awful.

For the moment, that option[1] is the best we're going to have. Even sublime doesn't ship with automatic whitespace trimming.
We've been discussing a better editor experience. We'll make sure maintaining whitespace control is an important piece of that.

Thanks

Sublime does ship with it, though it is not turned on by default (it is a preference, not a flag or anything). Perhaps that is what you meant?

Phistuck, they want codemirror in the sources panel to trim it for them. Currently, not possible. No custom extensions are allowed to be injected into CM.

I know they do, what were you trying to tell me here...?
I simply replied to the point Paul made about Sublime.

Wow, I missed an entire line in that email. Sorry, now things make sense in my brain.
