Corentin Brossault, who is CTO and co-founder of Mailmeteor, has published a fascinating and useful article about how to monetize an add-on (or at least how they did it at Mailmeteor). Corentin writes clearly about the process -- this article was also featured on Apps Script Pulse. Thanks, Corentin!

This is incredible, thank you! I was literally writing a question for this when I saw your post. Two follow up topics for anyone that may have thoughts, I'm new to this so forgive if these are simple questions:
  1. It seems the only implementations I've seen for add-on monetization is a link out to a sign up page on the developers website. I wonder if anyone has seen good examples of a sign up / subscription page directly within the add-on without linking out to another site? Wondering if this is even possible.
  2. Does Google collect a portion of your revenues? Thought I saw somewhere that they do collect 20%, but if subscription management is hosted outside of the workspace environment, how would that be possible for them?
Thanks again!

Thanks, Andrew -- another piece of this puzzle! I suspect I may have questions about that too.

I'm going off on a tangent here; while scanning through Robert's Subs library (nicely done btw) a question came to mind - How effective is the Freemium payment model with respect to Google Add-ons?

I wonder if we have any concrete stats available. In a more general sense, there seems to be a trend with small to mid-tier service vendors moving away from offering 'free' product tiers (Heroku being a recent example). Am I the only one noticing this?

I'd love to see Martin Hawksey and company cover this topic in a Totally Unscripted episode.
