Permissions in Google Workspace

Hello everyone,

I am facing a challenge with Google Workspace file sharing permissions and would appreciate any guidance or best practices you can share.

Issue: We need to allow external non-domain users to collaborate on files. These users are not added as members of the shared drives but have been given edit permissions on specific files. The problem is that, due to their edit permissions, they are also able to share these files with others, which is something we want to restrict.

Question: Is there a flag or a specific setting that I can configure using GAM, or a combination of settings within Google Workspace, that would prevent these external non-domain users from sharing files even though they have edit permissions? Any advice on file corrections using GAM to address this issue would also be highly appreciated.

I’m not sure about resetting the permission via GAM, but it is certainly possible to set a document so that editors can’t share it. In the “Sharing” dialog, click the gear in the upper-left corner:

Then uncheck the “Editors can change permissions and share” checkbox:

Hope that helps at least a little….

Unfortunately that option is only available on My Drive, not Shared Drives.

Ian if I do this on my Own Employee Drive, I have those options. If I do it on a Company Share Drive, those options are not there.

Just curious, 

What options do I have but trust.  

Option 1.

No external sharing 

Option 2. 

Outside Editors and trust they don't share the documents..

Thoughts?
