It looks like we can set all of the Group based permissions in GAM (as opposed to, say, user-display things like "mail/no-mail"). However, I don't see a means to set the subject prefix of a new group -- you know, the same way this very group prefixes e-mail subjects with [GAM]. This is something we use extensively, so I'm hoping it can be automated.

Is there a command/method? Or is this just not in the API?

Yep, sorry. Not in the APIs...

Such is life! By the way -- you are an amazing person, this is an amazing tool, and if you're ever in New Hampshire I will buy you a drink with the free time your work has actually allowed me to have.

Hi Jay

Do you know if there are any plans to include options in future releases of GAM to
  - set the subject prefix when creating new groups,
  - select what footer options to enable

Just curious, but after three years, is this still not in the API?
We want to use this to indicate whether a group is going to be deprecated soon. Is there any other way to include this? Right now we are having to rely on changing the name of the group and email to get the point across - hoping that it breaks people's filters so they can report if it is being used or not. Which doesn't seem like a good idea.

Andrew,

There is customFooterText and includeCustomFooter; both supported by Gam.

Not anything people here can do about it, at all.
Give proper feedback directly to Google, so they even know that you want to access that setting.
Nobody here works for Google.

Kim, of course, I am aware that no one here works for Google - I am also not asking Jay to magically produce an API. I am wondering if there was any status update on this post specifically.

Merely asking if the API had been created and if this just had been skipped over or missed out? Or maybe someone had found a workaround in the several years since this has been posted and maybe the wanted to share their findings.

Unfortunately, the footer work around doesn't really serve as a proper solution, as sometimes the footer information actually gets omitted by Google.

My point was to make you contact Google. You, personally, need to let them know that you want this to be added to the API.

No, not just you. Everyone who ever wanted this feature needs to tell them, every time we come across something missing or broken.

When that happens enough, Google usually does what we say.

But, yes, I totally understand that reading and interpreting the API documentation is too much for most of us.

Again, my comment wasn't really directed at you personally.

Hi all-

An old thread...  But now I am creating my new groups for the upcoming year and have to manually touch each one to set the "Subject Prefix"...  I totally understand that this is API dependant, so GAM can't help unless the setting is exposed through the API.

But, I found this today and Subject Prefix seems to be mentioned as a setting that can be changed:

Does that mean this is now possible?  Admittedly I don't know what I'm talking about and this developer article may not even be related...

Thanks!

No, that's the audit log which tells you what actions were performed on a group. The Groups Setting API is what GAM uses to modify group settings and there's still no method for setting subject prefix:
