We've used GAM for years without issue and suddenly we are no longer able to remove students from Google Classrooms. We ended up doing a brand new install and now we are unable to many things. For example, we tried to create a course for a teacher (the teacher is authorized to be a teacher in Classroom) and we get this error message:

ERROR: 403: @UserCannotOwnCourse Please check that the user account exists. If you are attempting to create a course for another user, ensure that you are admin of their domain. - 403

The GAM we are using account is a super admin in the same domain as all users. Also, we have these classroom scopes:

We are using the latest GAM version (6.15).

We are really at a loss since we've never run into this issue before.

SAdam,

Verify this:

Verify that Classroom API is enabled.

  • Access the admin console and go to Apps -> Google Workspace - Classroom
  • Expand "Data access"
  • Check "Users can authorize apps to access their Google Classroom data."
  • Click "SAVE"

Hi Ross,

Thank you very much for the response! After some more digging and connecting with Google support, we've confirmed this is an issue with Google's API and not with GAM.

Thanks,

Adam

Unfortunately, the issue is persisting for us. Google support has escalated it, but they don’t have any solution for us yet.

Greg,

On looking back in the messages to see the error messages, i realized that if you hadn't authorized apps to access Classroom you'd probably get a different error.

Hi,

For us, this ended up being an issue with the API on Google’s end. We had to get in touch with their support team and it took about a week but they eventually resolved it from their side. They never provided us with details about why it was happening, unfortunately.

Thanks,

Adam
