Hi Ross,

Is this likely to change - You can transfer ownership of calendars from one user to another; only non-primary calendars owned by the source user can be transferred.

This capability is no longer available, see: https://developers.google.com/workspace/calendar/release-notes#October_27_2025

Kind regards

No, API support is gone, the transfer must be done in the Calendar UI.

Hi Ross,

Just to triple confirm, does this API change only apply to secondary calendars? Or is primary calendar transfer no longer API enabled?

Because primary calendar transfers are part of an off-boarding script that has been running for years, and from what I can see initially, it continues to work.

Thanks!

Great, that's a relief.

Thank you, as always, Ross!

piggy backing off of that, is it possible to transfer a primary calendar from a former user to a current user?

Tony/Ben,

This is getting confusing. You can make user2 an owner of user1's primary calendar.
If you then delete user1, the calendar goes away.

NOTE: For calendars, the behaviour is not sufficiently defined in the API documentation. Background transfers only transfer future non-private events with at least one guest/resource.

You can’t transfer your primary calendar, which is automatically assigned to you when you first sign in to Calendar.
