Is it possible to configure a vacation (auto-reply) message for a Google Group email address itself?
My goal is for replies to come from the group address (e.g., gr...@domain.com) — not from the individual group members.

From the GAM documentation,  it looks like the group entity only lists its members, managers, and owners, not the group address itself.
For example, when I run: gam group gr...@domain.com vacation on subject "Auto Reply" file "C:\Path\AR_message.html" html start 2025-09-15 end 2025-09-16
I get this output: Getting all Members, Managers, Owners for gr...@domain.com, may take some time on a large Group...
Got 1 Member, Manager, Owner for gr...@domain.com...
User: us...@domain.com, Vacation Enabled: True

Hi Ari,

Groups, not being users, don't have vacation messages. If you want to set such a message for a group, one (or more) of the autoreplies is what you should use.

That said, I do not believe that there is an API for setting autoreplies in Groups, so GAM wouldn't be able to do this...(although I could be wrong here).

Hi,
Based on the docs it seems that the Vacation message (AutoReply) option for groups doesn't have an API.
Appreciate both of you for helping.

I would think you could do something like this:
gam redirect csv - group groupname@domain print members | gam csv - gam user ~email vacation on subject "Out of Office" message "I am currently out of the office and will reply when I return." startdate 2025-09-16 enddate 2025-09-20

This would list the group members and pump it into a second gam command to set the OOO message.  But like others have said, this is a user setting.  In my example gam enumerates though the group and sets options at the individual level.

If this is the solution desired then the command can be simplified.
gam group grou...@domain.com vacation on subject "Out of Office" message "I am currently out of the office and will reply when I return." startdate 2025-09-16 enddate 2025-09-20
