sendas, internal ERROR 500

Good morning,

I run this command:

gam user <username@domain> sendas <groupname@domain> "Description"


and receive:

Temporary error: internalError - Internal error encountered, Backing off: 60 seconds, Retry: 8/10
Temporary error: internalError - Internal error encountered, Backing off: 60 seconds, Retry: 9/10

ERROR: 500: internalError - Internal error encountered.

That occurs for just one user; for other users, it is ok.

What is the problem?

Hard to say if it only occurs for one user.

Can you try logging into the account and adding the send as manually from the Gmail UI to see if it works or offers a more descriptive error?

here is an update on the case: interested user added "sendas" by Gmail gui.

So why GAM didn't it?

There's no clear indicator why but if it's only happened once I'd move on 

If it's happening repeatedly I suggest opening a support case with Google.
