Hello everyone!

I am sure that this one is going to be fun:

Do you know if there is a way for us to audit our Google Groups?

I would like to be able to find out:

all google groups, all their members and their level/role, all their settings (accept email from outside, only internal members, etc..) and finally when was the last activity reported on the group and the email address that caused that activity.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

" when was the last activity reported on the group and the email address that caused that activity"
This isn't available via the API as far as I know.

Send me a Meet/Zoom invitation if you'd like to discuss.

Hey Ross,

thanks for the quick response,

Ultimately I am trying to figure out a way to establish if any google groups are dead due to lack of active users on it (people left and groups were not deleted) and if they are still needed/necessary...do you have any idea for that?

We don't limit staff from creating groups and I think they are creeping but in order to clean them up, we would have to find some sort of a metric to establish their existence.

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated

This has been asked many times and there is no good answer.

Some groups, security groups for instance, have no activity but they are important.

We have GWE+ which it has a lot tools for auditing but not much for Google Groups.

We are aware of the groups that we need as those are configured usually by the IT department but mail list created by staff has been challenging to trace down.

I got the following:

name,actor.callerType,actor.email,actor.profileId,group_email,id.applicationName,id.customerId,id.time,id.uniqueQualifier,ownerDomain,type

24 events but it does not seem to display the complete list of groups.

I would imagine that if there is a way to gain all groups' email, we should be able to run a query toward those email addresses and see when was the last email sent/received by it.

Again...I am getting creative here 😂

report logs only go back 180 days

I would imagine that if there is a way to gain all groups' email, we should be able to run a query toward those email addresses and see when was the last email sent/received by it.

There are no APIs to get this, maybe this can be gotten with Big Query but others in the group will have to verify/confirm thta.
