Hi, folks,

We've had some provisioning snafus lately, and one of them led me to interesting behavior by GAM. Note: The user foobar does not exist:

gam update group load...@groups.ualr.edu add member user foo...@ualr.edu

Group: load...@groups.ualr.edu, Add 1 Member

Group: load...@groups.ualr.edu, Member: foo...@ualr.edu, Added: Role: MEMBER

When I check this information in Reporting, I find this:

John Adams added other foo...@ualr.edu to group load...@groups.ualr.edu with role member

And when I check the Group itself, the user is there but not named.

Thanks,

     John A

It's not immediately obvious to me what the issue/problem is here. Can you clarify what behavior you expected vs. what happened?

Invalid in-domain email addresses are a lot like out-of-domain email addresses in a group, they don't have a status or name.
For members without a name, GAM shows Unknown.

You can delete them from the group.

What I expected to happen is for the add user operation to fail. What happened was that it succeeded.

Google will add almost any syntactically valid email address to a group.
For external email addresses, somtimes you can't delete them from the group by their email address,
Google claims that they don't exist in the grouup, you have to delete them by their id.
