How do I convert a regular user's email into a group email address?

Hi,

I have a regular email address that I'd like to "convert" into a groups email address. Short of deleting the account and recreating it as a group, is there a way to transfer the email in the inbox to the new group address? 

Current state: em...@example.com (has messages it's been receiving in the inbox as a user), 

Intended result: em...@example.com (is now a distribution list with members and messages from before are retained).

Hope this makes sense.

There's no automated way to migrate the data but you can use GYB to back it up and then restore to the group:

git.io/gyb

Have you considered using mailbox delegation instead of converting it to a group?
