Hi,

When we manually create a forwarding rule for former employees, we do it in Apps >> Google Workspace >> Settings for Gmail >> Routing. (see attached screenshot)

If I wanted to do this with GAM, gam user add forwardingaddress
doesn't seem like it would be the correct method. Is there a way to feed a CSV of the former employee and the new forward target email address and achieve these types of routing-based forwarding rules?

If you are attempting to enable forwarding to an external email address, then it will need to be accepted at the recipient end before the forward can be activated.

If the forwarding is internal (exists in the same Google space) then it can be done without the approval.

I'm not concerned with the approval process.

Using this method manually in Google Admin also lets you bypass the approval process, however it is much easier to see forwarding rules here than if they were created using the method I mentioned above.

Thanks Ross,

Doing it this way just means I need to issue this command to see the forwarding address info, correct?
gam <UserTypeEntity> show forwardingaddress

That command shows all of the defined forwarding addresses for the user.

This command shows the current state of forwarding for the user.

gam <UserTypeEntiry> show forward
