Hello,

we have a single app, which is deplyoed on different appengine projects. One of them for dev purpose only, with very low traffic. On saturday we got billing alert for this dev project and found out that frontend instance hours are pumping up. For some reason we got 5 instances running constantly. If we shutdown some, it is restarted immediately. There were no taks in queue and no traffic to the application. We didin't have any configuration for automatic-scaling, so we use the default one. This behaviour was not noticed on our other projects.

Somebody any suggestions?

Hi Trayan, is this still happening now or was it just an issue over the weekend?

Hi Karolina,

it looks like it was a weekend issue

This was indeed a transient issue occurring only over the weekend and limited to a small number of projects.  Were there any other projects affected like so over the weekend?

Please note that if you are experiencing similar scaling symptoms still, it is likely unrelated and I would strongly encourage that you submit a defect report on the App Engine Public Issue Tracker.  Be sure to include scaling settings and screenshots of network traffic/instance utilization to indicate that too many instances were spawned without the required network demand.  With this information, we'll be able to investigate this further where appropriate.

This was the only project affected.

At the moment, the billing balance report shows some payments related with this issue. Can we do something to get the money back or they will be cleared at the end of the month?

As this deals with refunds, the ideal channel for this specific request would be Billing Support.  Please fill out the linked form or create a support ticket detailing this issue.  Be sure to provide a link to this thread in your submission.  With this information, the billing team should be equipped to validate your request with the internal issue discussed in this thread.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.
