What code editor are people using?

I'd like to use an integrated web-based code editor, saving files directly on my VM's file structure, instead of using "vi"

The Eclipse Orion editor has moved to the pencil icon in the Cloud Shell. This is the best solution for editing code in the Google Cloud Shell VM. You can of course deploy your own distribution of Eclipse Orion to any VM as well since it is made for the Cloud.
