I have an application I'm running on node in an App Engine Flexible Environment. Currently the Image service is unavailable in flex envs, but I have 3 separate features that'd greatly benefit by its availability.

I'm curious to know how many others would love to see the Image API on Flexible Environments.

Hey Mike,

We were keen on this since the managed VM days.

In the interim we built our own solution: ImageResizer.io

It has a few more bells and whistles than GAE's image service, and is just as easy to use.

Someone's even written a basic Node.js wrapper for it: https://www.npmjs.com/package/imageresizer.io

Would love any feedback you have on it. PM me if you have any questions!

Nick

Since the new Google Cloud Client Libraries are made to run in the App Engine Flexible Environment, you can submit a feature request to have the Image API supported there.

Alternatively if your application relies heavily on image manipulation, it is highly recommended to use a third-party library that is continuously supported to perform future-proof image manipulation.
