Hi,

https://cloud.google.com/free/ says that we get 28 instance hours per day for standard environment, however pricing page of app engine doesn't of any free quota of compute resource (hr/day) https://cloud.google.com/appengine/pricing. Pricing calculator says 0.00 USD for 1.1 instance per hour https://cloud.google.com/products/calculator/#id=db16ca73-2faa-4822-8215-5ef9c33b2ada
I guess pricing page trumps all?

Hello Aditya,

Your first link leads to the page for free offers, whereas the second is the pricing calculator for the paid tier. The two sets of information are somewhat difficult to use in the same time. Always Free Products do not cost money within defined limits. You should choose from the offerings present on that page. If you do so, you do not need worry about how costs are calculated, as you keep defined limits in mind.

Always Free Products do not cost money within defined limits.
That's what I am trying to ask. Is 28 hr/day of standard app engine always free product? All pricing pages of always free products pricing page (ex: pub/sub) mention the free quota but app engine pricing page doesn't mention of any such free quota of compute resource.

Your first link leads to the page for free offers,
The link under always free products says:
Available for eligible customers. View details  (-> free trial page)
Unless I am mistaken, the page has free quota listed of two kinds free tier and always free. Generally, pricing page of product in question makes it clear but app engine pricing page seems a bit convoluted to me. can you please help? 🙏🙏🙏 I don't have a free tier account and would prefer not to find out app engine pricing through my bills 😌

There is a free trial. While it lasts, you will not be billed. When your trial ends, your account will be paused and you'll have the option to upgrade to a paid account. In other words, you do not risk to suddenly get charged. You have to expressly upgrade to a paid account, to start seeing charges on your credit card. You may read more detail on the "Frequently Asked Questions" page
Do you have specific questions about the convoluted portions of the pricing page?
Description of always free products are provided on each product page separately.

App Engine (GAE) Standard does have 28 instance hours per day free, amongst other free quota limits.  You can see exactly what GAE Standard offers for free on its Quotas page.

If you'd like to ensure that you don't incur GAE related charges for a particular project, you can enable spending limits and set it to $0.  The one caveat to consider is that this effectively makes the project a free-tier project for GAE purposes, which means that GAE quotas that require billing but incur no charge will again be restricted from use.  This also has no impact on non-GAE resources, so charges can be incurred from other products.

I forgot to mention one other thing.  Thanks for the detailed explanation of your concerns and which documentation you found confusing!  I agree that we could be more clear and consistent on our free tier between the multiple pricing and quota related GAE documentation.  I'll make sure we update this.

Yes. Check standard instance pricing section, it has no mention of 28 hours/day of f1 instance being free.
You can see exactly what GAE Standard offers for free on its Quotas page.
Thanks Josh. I had skimmed over quotas page previously, information I was looking for is half way into the page. Compute being the largest portion of any bill, I believe pricing especially related to something being free would be of prime interest for anyone. Free quota should be mentioned on pricing page itself, like it is for most of gcp products.

Hello Aditya,

Thank you so much for letting us know your concern. You are correct that the page [1] does not clearly indicate 28 free instance-hours per day is applicable to Frontend Instances (Automatic Scaling Modules) as for Backend Instances (Basic and Manual Scaling Modules) the quota is 9 free instance-hours per day. We have already notified the documentation team of your concerns so that they may consider updating the relevant pages.
