Hi,

I'm new to Google App Engine and I need to develop PHP web app that can be deployed both on GAE and on a Tomcat server.

Can it be done? What are the limitations? I guess I won't be able to use functions of the App Engine API...

I'll be using a MySQL database, so I guess that won't be a problem.

Thank you.

Hello Octávio,

You are right about the facilities offered by the App Engine. More detail may be gathered from the main reply to the "What is the difference between Google App Engine and Google Compute Engine?" question in stackoverflow.

You may choose to experiment by deploying the same app in a compute engine machine with Tomcat. There is already a Tomcat Bitnami stack ready to be deployed from the developers console. If you choose to use this facility, you can ascertain your app works if deployed on an independent Tomcat server, as you intend to do in the end.
