nodejs application instability while not being used

My application keeps hitting errors over night while no scripts are being called. When I check in the morning and try to access routes i get 500 internal server errors until i restart the server. None of my scripts were accessed in the logs or through errors. My application is set to use a single instance as I am using sockets. All i can see in the logs are /_ah/background which is some GC service i take it. 1 in 100 of these calls seems to result in a error 200. 

Any help would be appreciated.

Also these /_ah/background calls dont seem consistent. Sometimes I will see it called 200 times in 1 second other times nothing for 8 hours.
