Hello,

Is there anyway to enable the 'Include-Empty-Rows' parameter in the spreadsheet add-on?

I have a sheet which I can't get a Query to work with where it is looking to make a URL and a date to show the unique views, so instead have been using straight '=Sheet2!A3' commands, but some days have 0 views and it's messing up my other stats. If i could use the Include-Empty-Rows it would be easier, any help is appreciated!

Can you explain in more detail why the current "include-empty-rows" behavior is messing up your stats? Maybe give a specific example?

We decided not to add that new field to the add-on because we thought it would introduce more confusion and probably wouldn't solve any real use-cases. In my experience, when most people see the "include-empty-rows" parameter, they think it does something different from what it actually does (IMO, it has a terrible name).

So I'm creating a rolling 14 day report to show the flow through a funnel. To create this I have used a report to extract unique views and date for the 3 pages and ordered by page name. On the first sheet I designed a quick table and used the '=Sheet2!A5' sort of 'formula' to just take that data from the particular cell as they should always be the same.

We've now decided to change the first page of the 3 but not the last. As the rows don't include '0' it doesn't add the extra row the table is expecting so the numbers are all wrong, with different values in different cells. We want to be able to see the last 2 pages still in the table until the 14 days are over preferably,

Thanks,

It sounds like you're assuming `include-empty-rows` is something that it's not.

As I mentioned in my previous email, the name they chose is very confusing. The `include-empty-rows` parameter is true by default, so adding it to the add-on would only give you the ability to make it false.

You can read up on exactly what the parameter does here:

Did you get an answer to your question because I'm struggling with the same thing?

Thanks

Hello,

I didn't get an answer to the question as it seems like it's not possible to do what I was looking for...

I have decided to change my reports to accommodate this instead,

Thanks, I came to the same conclusion after reading around. Manual intervention might be the only way.

Hi,

is there any update or plans that include-empty-rows may be included in the add on as an option?

Kind regards,
Zorin

Zorin, can you explain why you want it? As I described previously in this thread, it's a very poorly named field and I believe it would cause more confusion than help.

Its uses are extremely limited, and I suspect you think it does something different form what it actually does.

Hi Philip,

the request came as a question from a client which is based on the following case:

The client wants to schedule a report via google sheets which would (simplified version) provide stats for:

Example 1
Dimensions - Source / Medium, Hour, Minute
Metric - Goal XX completions

The issue the client is having is what the API call returns:
Row 1
Source Medium - (direct) / (none)
Hour 22
Minute 46
Goal 9 Completions 0

Row 2
Source Medium - google / organic
Hour 18
Minute 44
Goal 9 Completions 0

Row n
Same thing.

There was a goal completed yet not that specific ID.

Example 2
Dimensions - Source / Medium
Metric - Goal XX completions

The API will return rows of all source / medium combinations sorted by A-Z while the goal 9 completion metric would always be 0. Again the client would rather have the option to exclude these rows which would remove the need to additionally filter these out.

The workaround would be to filter out the 0 yet if the report contains multiple goals it cannot relay on the filter (aside from creating additional queries for each goal).

In short the client would like to mimic the behavior of a custom report where these 0 results are omitted by default. Once include-empty-rows:true us applied via query explorer the results as 'expected'.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Zorin

Just a quick edit - Once include-empty-rows:false is applied via query explorer the results are as 'expected'.

Thanks Zorin, yeah, this is a good use case (one of the few) for the includeEmptyRows parameter. At the moment the best thing I can suggest is to continue using filters as you've described.

I'm in the process of getting support for the new Reporting API v4 in Sheets add-ons (which defaults to false for the includeEmptyRows param), so once that's done I'll look into whether/how to add this in a way that is helpful for cases like yours but doesn't cause confusion for everyone else.

I will describe my problem and the way i have solved it.

I needed to get CPC / ORGANIC / REF sessions per day for 1 month and extract it in summary table. I've got Date-Session values without that days, where sessions were 0.
Something like:
01.09.2016 | 126
03.09.2016 | 345
04.09.2016 | 432
So in 2 of september i had 0 sessions and all other data in my summary were spoiled.

I have solved this with VLOOKUP function in excel. It synchronize date and get sessions for exact day.
Will that solve your problem?

Hi Philip - I recently started using the Sheets add-on and running into the same scenario/use case Zorin described. Would you know of any updates or upcoming plans in the works to include this field (or something similar) in the Sheets add-on?
