I installed the "google-analytics-spreadsheet-add-on" in google spreadsheet → set "Schedule Report" → "Enable reports to run automatically" → run "every hour"

I watch the GA data for 2 domains, but found this add-on stop updating report recnetly:

1 stop on May. 24
1 stop on May. 28

Even yesterday I manually resume to run the report, but found that this add-on still won't automatically run the report until today.

Is there something wrong with this add-on? or should I provide my spreadsheet url for evalutation ?

Did it continue to run after those misses without you doing anything, or did you have to do something to get it to run again? Also, did you get any email errors?

1. no, it never run automatically after  those misses.
2. I have to manually → add-on → Google Analytics → Run Reports, then it will run.
3. I didn't get email error notification

BTW, I've tried new Google Drive and old Google Drive, both are same status as above.

I'm seeing the same thing.

I have 6 Reports in a spreadsheet and it runs fine manually and up until about 2 weeks ago would run fine every hour.

2 weeks ago I got a report that there was an "internal error". I ran it again manually and it worked. I then disabled all my scheduled triggers and then re-enabled just this one spreadsheet.

However it still has not run manually and I get no email/warnings.
Not sure what else to try.

Is there any hidden log that the scheduler produces?

Unfortunately there is no log that I have access to. I've mentioned to the add-ons team that this is happening, and they've said they'll look into it, but that's about all I can do at this point.

If you discover any predictable way to consistently reproduce this issue, that would be very helpful and probably make it a lot easier for them to fix the bug.

Thanks Philip, quite understand.

Much appreciated.

At present I'm having to run them manually. I can't seem to get the scheduler working at all :)

I'll try at the weekend to create a simplified spreadsheet with just 1 report and go from there,

I would provide one way for "add-ons team" to check:

recently Google Data API has changed:

https://developers.google.com/gdata/docs/auth/clientlogin

if this GA add-on use old way of "ClientLogin", maybe this is why cause internal error, and we won't receive the error email notification. Please check if this GA add-on use "OAuth 2.0" instead.

Hi guys,

We're seeing this issue too. We have a spreadsheet with 20 reports inside. Basically scheduled reports were running fine up until a few weeks ago.

I recieved an error by email stating:

Error message
1 report failed due to errors:
[report-name]: There was an internal error.

I tried setting up scheduling again and it said it worked, but it didn't.

Then I tried setting it up again today and it threw an error message:

ScriptError: This add-on has created too many time-based triggers in this document for this Google user account.

To get around this issue I enter Script editor and clear my triggers. I can Schedule the reports again without issue, but time will tell whether it break again or not.

Cheers,
Rob

We also experienced the same issue. Two reports that were scheduled to run every hours stopped running few weeks ago. Running reports manually worked but didn't help the scheduled process. Today I changed the schedule to once a day and just it first time executed automatically. I'll keep monitoring it, but my theory is that one hour is not enough for some reports to get executed and Google servers just kill the background processes in such case.

I'm getting the same issue. I had reports scheduled to run hourly and they got knocked out about a couple of weeks ago. I received an email

"The Google Analytics Spreadsheet add-on encountered an error while attempting to run the scheduled reports in the following spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/xyz

Error message
1 report failed due to errors:
'Report name': Backend Error"

This knocked out all the other reports in the spreadsheet from updating. The date settings for the report were set using '=TODAY()' and cell containing '=TODAY()'-7. The date in the reports tab hadn't updated, I can't remember whether the date had updated in the actual report configuration or not.

I'm using this add on to embed the reports into a dashboard which I now can't rely on to update automaticall. Any word on a diagnosis, and a timeframe of a potential fix??

Hey Paul, is this your only spreadsheet that has scheduling or do you have a few? If you have more than this one, has all scheduling stopped?

The one thing I've heard from a few people that seems to help is to just make a copy of the sheet and re-enable scheduling. Let me know if that doesn't work.

If you use the "Spreadsheet URL" feature, you can output report data to a separate spreadsheet and thus decouple the report config sheet from your report dashboards.

That way, if you have to make a copy, you don't lose any work.

I could create a copy but what there's no guarantee that the copy wouldn't stop scheduling. That's addressing a symptom rather than being a cure. As I've mentioned to others on this thread, if you use the "Spreadsheet URL" function to output results to separate sheets, you won't need to worry about remapping results if you ever have to copy a spreadsheet.

I know it's not an ideal solution, but until someone can reproduce this issue (I can't), this bug is going to remain a problem.

I don't have an official update on this, but I've heard that in a recent release of apps-scripts, a lot of triggers bugs were fixed. Hopefully that means this issue was fixed with them. Please follow up here if schedule reports continue to randomly stop working.

try turning off the scheduling altogether, refreshing the page, then scheduling it fresh all over again.  That seemed to work for me.  Than again I might have just gotten lucky.

Hey Seif,

This is not a problem with the add-on (if it was, I would fix it), it's a problem with the underlying scheduling system in Apps Scripts. I've filed a few bugs internally for this, but it's been hard for the team to reliably reproduce the issue and thus it's hard to say what's causing it.

The best way you can help is try to find a way to reliably reproduce the failure, i.e. does it always happen after a certain number of days? Does it only happen if running a certain number of reports? Does it only happen in conjunction with other add-ons you may have installed?

If you want to go further than that, you can email me (privately) a link to the spreadsheet as well as the time the scheduled report stopped running. You can figure out the time by looking at the previous time it ran and adding the interval to that (does that make sense?).

Beyond that, there's not really anything I can do (unfortunately) since I don't control the apps scripts team or the priority in which they fix bugs.

Philip

We're having the same issues, however i'm only consistently seeing this occur with our sheets that contain 22 and 34 reports within them.  Of the 10 Report sheets, these two seem to fail each day(i.e. i look in the morning and they haven't run since the prior day.  They may update a few times after i manually run the add-on, but come the next day they more than likely will not have run overnight.).  They also happen to be the largest report segments we run.

Each report within the 2 main problem sheets is using:
Start/End Date Calculations
Up to 5 Metrics
Up to 3 Dimensions
Sort
Filter
Segments
Sampling level: High

All reports feed external sheets for display, so we aren't losing data, but it can be confusing if we don't realize a report didn't run.  A helpful tip for anyone running a dashboard is to incorporate the "Last Run On" report field into your dashboard.

We do not have any other add-ons.

Best,
Josh B.

Looking forward to this being resolved, so please let me know if you'd like any additional information.

It's random.  Some reports update, others do not.

Can't pinpoint what the issue is for replication on Dev side.  But would be great to get this fixed.

Yes, I do have an update.

I just heard from the add-ons team that they've implemented better logging. So if anyone has a spreadsheet with scheduling enabled that failed to run, please send me a link to the spreadsheet URL as well as the time it was supposed to run but didn't.

I'll forward that on to the add-on's team, which will hopefully help them diagnose the problem.

Note that the new logging went live today, so these failures will have to have happened today or at some point going forward (failures from the past aren't helpful to them unfortunately).

Sean, I passed your sheet along to some people on the add-ons team and they don't see any evidence of scheduled reports ever having run for that sheet in the last 7 days.

Are you saying the the scheduling stopped or are you saying the first scheduled reports never ran?

Im saying its hit and miss. Some of my sheets up date as scheduled. Others like the one I shared with you sometimes update and sometimes do not.

When they do update it seems to be somewhat sporadic vs at the scheduled time.

I appreciate the support, love this addon...the whole point of us using it is for these auto updates :)

Could the fact that the sheet is shared be impacting anything?

Sean, like I said I need to provide the add-ons team an actual example of a failure. For clarification, here's what I need:

1. The URL of a spreadsheet that was successfully running scheduled reports
2. The time of the last successful report and the time of the report that failed (you can get this time from the "Last Run On" value in the report sheet).

Alternatively, if the scheduled reports were enabled but *never* ran, I need:

1. The URL of the spreadsheet for which scheduling was turned on, but the reports never ran.
2. The best approximation you can give me of when the reports should have run.

BTW (and this applies to anyone reading), you don't need to share the sheet with the world, just the sheet URL is sufficient for the add-ons team to inspect their logs. And if you don't want to email this whole group, just email me individually.

I'm not able to find the "Last Run On" value in the reports sheet. Can you describe where that is?

Just do a search for that text in the sheet.

"Edit" > "Find and Replace"

I was able to find it and all of my reports say they were last run on 5/18/2016 13:32:10.

Is this what you were looking for? Do you want a link to one of the reports?

Thanks,
Nathan

To provide an update on this issue:

A fix for one of the two bugs causing this issue went live earlier today. However, the fix will not affect existing schedules, so if you're experience this problem, you'll need to disable and re-enable scheduling to get the fix. To be on the safe site, it's probably best to just do this regardless:

1. Open up the scheduling dialog, uncheck "Enable reports to run automatically" and click "Save"
2. Open up the scheduling dialog, check "Enable reports to run automatically", set your desired schedule, and click "Save".

If after doing this you still encounter failure, please report them directly to me and include the following information:

1) A link to the sheet that failed to update.
2) The email address off the owner of the sheet.
3) The date/time of the last known scheduled run (not manual run).
4) The frequency with which scheduled reports are supposed to run.
5) Whether or not the schedule dialog indicates that scheduling is currently enabled.

I am having the same issue which is causing issues.  I've got multiple reports built (over 100), tons of work and just noticed that they are not updating hourly.
It's random.  Some reports update, others do not.

Can't pinpoint what the issue is for replication on Dev side.  But would be great to get this fixed.

Any updates?

I can confirm that Michael Lauwers' fix works

He said, "try turning off the scheduling altogether, refreshing the page, then scheduling it fresh all over again.  That seemed to work for me.  Than again I might have just gotten lucky."

Just confiming that stoping the schedule and closing spreadsheet, first. Then I turned on again before I recommend cleanning the cache of the chrome browser.

Thank you all

Is this pretty much how it is?  The cache trick and turning schedule on and off works sometimes but even if it does its at most 72 hours.

At this point im trying to find a script that will click the run reports menu item b/c thats the only reliable way to get these to refresh.

My guess is the more reports you are refreshing the less reliable this plugin scheduler will be.

As I've stated before, this issue is unrelated to the Google Analytics Spreadsheet Add-on, it's an issue with the underlying scheduling used by app scripts, so there's nothing I can change to make the situation better.

What I *can* do is report occurrences of failures to the apps scripts team to help them investigate, so if you send those to me, I'll pass them on. Follow the instructions I mentioned here:

Is the option to schedule reports deprecated in GA 360 connected to G-sheets? I attempted to automatically update the data, but it's not functioning as expected. Consequently, I've been manually running the reports.

I have 4 Google Sheets reports scheduled to update daily 6-7am and they aren't updating. I have tried everything and they still won't run.
