Today, Google announced that they will be shutting down Google Reader on July 1. Given that the Feeds API shares some backend components, I am curious how this will impact the Feeds API.

Hi everyone,

This week's Google Reader announcement has no impact on the Feed API.  As in the past, we will continue to post explicitly whenever we have news about changes to this or other APIs.

Thanks,
Adam

Hopefully so Jeff.

I really hope that this API won't disappear with Google Reader.
Can we have an answer?

G has missed a golden opportunity to roll all the news sifters, like myself, into G+.
How hard would it have been to use the feed API to make a section of G+ into Reader 2.0?
Or roll it into Gmail like an online Thunderbird?
Those were the first things I attempted when I heard the news.
Nope, not possible.

There is no way to get a condensed view of headlines from a hundred different sites in G+.
G-news fails at this also.

RSS is not for everyone but it is the source for much of the blogging and media programming that goes on.

I think G+ developers are spending too much time staring at Facebook.

Showing all the Reader users the door has sewn FUD into a very influential part of the ecosystem.
I'm here looking for some clue about where this feed API stands, same as the OP.
Also wondering about every other G-API I've used in the past 10 years.

The Feeds API v2 with Push was quietly discontinued some time ago. For more information, check out this thread:
