all our sites using http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js
are now broken! WTF???

Hi Steve,

I'm terribly sorry about this.  The problem should already be fixed.  I didn't respond right away because we were working feverishly to solve the problem as quickly as possible, and the fix rolled out a few minutes ago.

Again, apologies for the problem.  If anyone is still seeing an issue, please let us know!

Muhammad, the generic /1/ URL has not been updated for some time. I would suggest utilizing the URL of the specific version of jQuery you are trying to load. You can see the different versions which are available via the Google CDN here: https://developers.google.com/speed/libraries/#jquery
