What happened to the Google News widget?

We've had the news widget on our sites in Ecuador (EcuadorToday.info for example) for some time now and they were providing news related to Ecuador as we specified. Now; however, they are all suddenly coming up blank. What has happened to this feature? Has it been depreciated? Is there a replacement?
Appreciate any help. . .

The News Search service was deprecated more than 4 years ago. It was recently shut down. You may want to consider alternative services from Farroo or Bing.
