Black banner ad will appear - Android

I was using the test ad unit ID "ca-app-pub-3940256099942544/6300978111" on Android to verify.

Until yesterday, I was seeing a test ad that said "nice job".

Suddenly all I view is a black test ad.

I haven't changed the source code, so I can't think of the cause.

Please advise me if you have any knowledge that can help me improve.

Using com.google.android.gms:play-services-ads:19.6.0

Thank you for reaching out to us.

It is possible that you "ran out" of test ads to use for your test ad unit during this time, which should not be a cause for concern. As long as the "Test Ad" label is displayed at the top of the ad, you are still technically using test ads for your app. That being said, if you wish for more realistic-looking test ads, you may want to check out this page to learn more about enabling test devices.

I have exactly the same problem for several days. From my side, the problem occurs with the interstitel or banner and not just with the test ad unit.
I can see a 404 error on the requested file : https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/simgad/15219988667938366804/downsize_200k_v1
While the URL should be: https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/simgad/15219988667938366804

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I work along with Ziv and will be helping you today. Can you share with us a simple sample app showing this error via "Reply to author".  As well as a Charles log of the ad that is being served to you that also causes this error.

Hi Ziv,

Thanks for your response.

I issued an ad unit ID and registered a test device from the AdMob management screen, and confirmed that the new ad unit ID displayed a non-black ad labeled "Test Ad.

But if you use the test ad unit ID, you will see black ads.

I would like to see a test ad that says "Nice job" like before, because the black ad makes it hard to tell if it's working or not.

Thank you for your patience on this concern, as well as for the sample project provided to us.

I was able to replicate the issue on my end, using the aforementioned sample project. I will take this up to the rest of the team for further investigation, and will update the thread for any developments on this.

Hi,

Glad to see that you have successfully reproduced the problem.

I managed to set up Charles Proxy, so I am attaching the logs to you in various formats.

The files named "404" contain the logs when I get a black screen.
The files named "200" contain the logs when the advertisement is displayed correctly.

It can be clearly seen that sometimes the creative served is :
https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/simgad/17993294804390203413/downsize_200k_v1 (resulting in 404 error and black screen)
And sometimes the advertisement the creative served is :
https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/daca_images/simgad/1082282279264628497

Here is my ad unit ID and my application ID:

ca-app-pub-6689911259217576/6912821422

ca-app-pub-6689911259217576~1946493255

I only have 1 active campaign on this ad unit.
Creatives look correct on Admob.

I see the same problem with the banners.
Here is a 404 query for a banner that also results in a black screen :

Creatives are displayed correctly randomly.

Don't know what is this "/downsize_200k_v1" mention in the end of URL.
