Collapsible banner button size is too small

Hello.

iOS Mobile Ads SDK version: Google-Mobile-Ads-SDK (12.2.0)

iPad mini 5 / iOS 18.3.2, various iPhones with iOS 18.x

I'm experiencing an issue with closing/collapsing a collapsible banner in my iOS app, is there a way to increase button size/tap detection area or provide a custom close control?

Example of the feedback: ”The Arrow button that hides the collapsable banner is really hard to click and this is a crucial one, because it will frequently be shown"

I tested the Google sample application using the version and devices you specified, and it is working as expected on my end. Could you please check in our sample application and confirm?

Please note that Customization options for the close button area are limited due to AdMob's policies and guidelines.

I had to modify the banner sample as no project has a collapsible banner. Attaching the version I tested. If you try to close/collapse the banner on simulator (which allow very precise tap simulation), it works if you hit the circle/arrow image only (green circle on the screenshot), not 50px wide button (magenta on screenshot, GADCloseButton in the debug view hierarchy mode).

It might the expected behaviour, is there any way to adjust close button hit detection area? It is too small, usually it takes 2 taps (on real device) to hit and it is a suboptimal UX in my app.

FYI, this sample project also allows easily reproduce this issue (with reload ad button in the bottom right corner, 10 reloads usually enough to "freeze an app").

Thanks for providing insight of the performance issue, I've raised this feature request to cover tappable area to whole square view instead image so that user can tap easily and close the expended ad. I will provide you an update when receive any. Meanwhile, your patience is important.

Hi,

Currently, custom close functionality is not supported for the collapsible banner. The close button is rendered server-side by the ad rendering process, not by the Google Mobile Ads SDK.

The visible close icon is a small 24x24 pixel square. Around this visible square, there's a padding of 16 pixels on all sides. If you tap anywhere within this larger 56x56 pixel area (the visible button plus the invisible padding), that will be registered as a click on the close button.

Hello.

Thank you for the response, I was wondering if I missed something about close button customisation. Now I know I didn't.

On the other hand, my experience shows that padding is not really clickable. Tested on simulator (my previous message) and on device now. Please check the video, it shows that clicking on the space between the circle icon and top left corner of the screen in particular (where button is, according to the debug view hierarchy) is not collapsing the banner.

Tested on iPad mini 5, iPadOS 18.4.1 with assistive touch/virtual trackpad to show the taps.

Please let me know if such issue should be reported elsewhere (general ads group, etc.) or it is ok to proceed here to be sure there is no misbehaviour/bug related to the collapsible banner close button.
