minimizing notes in activities list in the sidebar

I recently installed the latest dev build and noticed that the Activities list in the sidebar now always includes a notes section even if there are no notes. This causes empty space between activities and you see fewer activities in the list causing more scrolling. I was wondering if there was a way to turn this off. Basically it would be nice to have 1 line date entries for each activity in the sidebar list.

Disable the diary setting for all data fields in https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/wiki/UG_Preferences_Data-Fields#fields and the list will have 1 line per activity, for all activities.

That works. Previous behaviour (eg. dev build 4003 May) did the same
oneline for when all the fields with diary checked were empty so was
more compact when your notes were infrequent but you wanted them to
show.

I was wondering about something similar the other day:

The notes are appended to the title without a line break. It would be nice when they would have a smaller font size and a new line.

Or maybe notes are displayed when the mouse rests on an list element.

There was some long standing issues affecting the Activity list, veteran users are likely adapted to them but they confounded new users and were a never ending source of complains s.t. https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/issues/3074 and https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/issues/3341

They are fixed now and the change included switching to uniform row height, 4 lines or 1 line according if you have fields marked as Diary.

"Notes" is just a TextBox field in your Data Fields configuration, you can have more of them or none or structure you metadata into several shorter Text fields instead of a longer one, it's your choice.

All fields marked as Diary are concatenated for display in the 2nd and 3rd rows of the Activity list, additionally you can use Data and Overview charts to view metadata fields (Diary or not)  arranged as you like.

Please see  Optional uniform activity heights #3891, I think this addresses this issue.
