3.6 with fresh 22.04 ubuntu install

I somehow cannot get the rlv to play using GC.

I did a brand new install of ubuntu, added my device, thinking that my os install had something wrong with it.  I tried it first without installing vlc from the snap store, then installed vlc from the store and restarted.  same result.  I've scoured the forums and have been unable to find a solution.  can you guys please help me

ubuntu 22.04lts

gc 3.6dev running from appimage

avi file that plays in vlc 3.0.18 installed from snap store

i've also tested just plain mp4 video files with no success.

ok, i've extracted the appimage to squashfs-root

I see I have a folder called vlc in lib

now what?

I know this is a huge ask, and i know you guys do this just for the love of the game.  I appreciate any guidance from this point as my efforts with the google have came up to nil

as i did some more troubleshooting I thought "maybe rather than messing with gc properties, i would just install the correct vlc 3.0.8 from tarball"

that appears to not work for me either.  i know this isn't an issue of gc, but i thought i would point it out if anyone else is stuck where i am.

Install vlc in your system and remove the included one…

i followed the instructions here that you updated (thank you)

and still cant get it to go.  I assume when the instructions said remove libvlc* it meant these 5 files.  as well as the vlc directory in /lib of the extracted appimage

what else am I missing?
