I’m just experimenting with GC, I’ve been using Trainer Road for the last couple of years but would like to use GC now.

I always prefer to do my workouts in non-ERG mode, as it helps me keep the same constant power output when riding outdoors.  In Trainer Road, there is a toggle button to go from ERG to Resistance mode, I could not find such an option in GC.

The current workaround I’ve found is to setup my Wahoo Kickr in power mode (not FEC) in GC, then control the resistance on my bike computer (Garmin Edge 1030 Plus). I would prefer not using my bike computer for my indoor training.

Please let me know if I’m missing something.

Thank you!

Mark answered to this already, and said it is not supported yet, is there a timeline to support this in the near feature?

Is everyone else running GC in ERG mode?

Thanks!

Slope mode is supported provided your smart trainer does,  both in manual and workout variants, see https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/wiki/UG_Side-Bar_Train-view#workouts, in both cases you can change slope during the workout using https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/wiki/UG_Workout-Control_General.
The FAQs on training can also be useful if you are new to GoldenCheetah.

I am using the same solution as you with a Jetblack Volt, setting resistance mode in their app on my phone while connecting GC to the trainer and only selecting power. I find this better for some ERG workouts but having changed from a fluid trainer the resistance mode is really too flat and the GC slope mode using your virtual bike characteristics is more like the fluid trainer.
I am experimenting with converting the ERG workout file to a Slope workout.

Converting an ERG to a slope workout rode OK but visually not too intuitive and unless familiar with the workout and a bit hard to tell where you are along the way.
The workout I converted was low cadence with high load intervals and in standard ERG mode I stalled when the load hit.
The best solution still seems to set the trainer into resistance mode on my phone to train with these ERG files in GC.

For slope mode you design the terrain you would like to have available for your workout and the guidance is the altitude profile, for example a VO2max workout may look like:

I agree, if you like to think in terms of watts per time but you like to control watts by yourself with a smart trainer, to have a device with the trainer attached as a powermeter is the way to go. In my likely unpopular opinion an ol'skool dumb fluid trainer with a nice progressive curve plus an on the bike powermeter is a better combo for that purpose.

Thanks Ale.
I will try some variations designing in slope mode, I never thought to
have "down hill" sections but it makes the workout much easier to
comprehend visually.

Having only just ridden a smart trainer for the first time I agree the
fluid Turbo Muin is much nicer to train on, unfortunately it is
reporting power much lower than actual. I would probably have been
better buying an on bike power meter than the smart trainer and sticking
with the Turbo Muin.
