Little has been written about tribal villages. Here is one.

There's another book on this topic, part focussing on a community leader, and the other part, on the aboriginal communities of Goa. What you say is true, Themis, there's a huge gap on studies about these sections of Goa. This is where our class/caste bias comes in. Another book (below) has some essays touching on the topic. We at Goa,1556 played a small role in assisting with these titles. FN
PS: Because of the difficulty in getting paper across continents, it's hard to deliver these books internationally. If interested, best to buy from one of the bigger bookshops in Goa.

Bernadette Gomes wrote an excellent study of a particular tribal group some years ago, but I think it never came to the public eye, something I very much regretted.

As an aside: Cuelim was the native village of Dr. Ligorio da Cunha, the father of Vicente de Bragança Cunha, a great writer, author of a book on the history of Indo-Portuguese Literature and editor of the periodical “A India Portuguesa”, and of Tristão de Bragança Cunha. Dr. Ligorio da Cunha was also a great journalist.

Yes, that was her thesis, but she produced a report on the Dhangar or Gadaria community.  I don't have a copy, but I did see it some years ago.  That's the one I'm referring to.  It was an excellent piece of work.

Dear Fred, She has done more work on Goan tribal and caste people than anyone else. There are other themes she has worked on and, as an artist, she has given them a pictorial representation too, which is extraordinary. There was a time I thought I would invite her to Mangalore with her pieces of art, paintings etc. I did not get an opportunity. She is a deposit of Goan folk culture with various branches. I wish she had created a team to carry on the work and give it a linguistic turn too.
With best wishe,
William Robert Da Silva
