It was a happy Saturday evening witnessing the release of a book titled, "Floristic Diversity of Goa along Zuari and Sal Rivers" authored by Celly Quadros, Venecha Carvalho and Krishnan Sellappan. The second author is a budding botanist mentored by fellow authors.
The book was published by the Government College, Quepem in collaboration with the Goa University. Members of several BMCs, students, colleagues of the authors and the public attended the function.
Dr Pravina Kerkar, Principal of the Government College, Quepem highlighted the importance of this book. As a geographer, she also narrated the changes she has seen along the river Zuari. Prof. Krishnan provided the overall picture. Contributions and the vision of Goa University towards biodiversity documentation and conservation was highlighted by him. Ms Venecha gave insights into the contents of the book along with the journey the authors took towards achieving this goal.
Shri Harish Adconkar, the Chief Guest (Director, DST & WM) released the book. Dr Pradip Sarmokadam (Member Secretary, GSBB), Guest of Honour, in his address underlined the importance of ecosystems including the river ecosystems and the documentation of biodiversity. He also appreciated the contributions of BMCs in documenting the biodiversity and associated knowledge. He congratulated the authors for their efforts in bringing out this book. He urged everyone to contribute in these lines. The Chief Guest, Shri Harish Adconkar in his address appreciated how beautifully Celly Quadros brought together her experience and scientific approach in bringing out this book. He had special appreciation for the young author Ms Venecha Carvalho for connecting the project to her heart. He mentioned Prof. Krishnan's mentorship as a key to this book. Ms Celly Quadros proposed a Vote of Thanks. In the process she also narrated the journey from 2017, that brought together DST, BMCs and her PhD work. She specially mentioned Dr Levinson Martins, IAS (the then Director of DST), while thanking so many others who contributed in various ways. Ms Priya Almeida, Chairperson, BMC, Navelim shared the dias and actively organised the event. Dr Deepa Prajith wonderfully anchored the function.
