Goa University to start Annual D.D.Kosambi Memorial Lecture Series

Goa University is instituting an Annual Lecture series in the memory of Late  Damodar Dharmanand Kosambi, on the occasion of his 116th birth anniversary on 31st July 2023. The inaugural edition of the lecture shall be given by Prof. Lakshmi Subramanian, Visiting Professor of history, BITS, Pilani Goa campus, on the theme 'Studying contested pasts: Challenges of reading and writing history' . Dr. Subramanian is an eminent historian and has worked on maritime and business history., history of   Indian ocean and cultural history of music and performance in South India.

The lecture is being instituted by the D.D.Kosambi School of Social Sciences and Behavioural Studies, Goa University, named after the eminent Goan polymath, mathematician, historian and Indologist, whose work inspired a generation of scholars, given the vastness of his knowledge and expanse of his intellectual pursuits. The lecture will be held at the Auditorium, Faculty Block E (New Science Block) at 11. A.M on 31st July 2023. All are invited to attend.

A D D Kosabi School of Social, Human and Historical Sciences makes sense. But Behavioural Sciences does not make any sense. Dr D D Kosambi should have a School in Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts (with Mathematical annexes etc.) on his own. His father father, he and his daughter - all require a memorial research centre, nothing less. It could be Kosambi School of ...where all are remembered and furthered in critical studies. Everything else falls short of their contribution to India and global society.,
